How to repair walls after chase

When we chase out solid walls or cut into plaster board we will re-plaster to an undercoat finish. This will then need further finishing before the walls can be painted or decorated. We hope this brief guide will be of help if you have never attempted wall repairs before.

Tools required “

1. Flat sanding block (or electric sanding tool if you love a gadget)

2. Sandpaper, medium grade and fine grade.

3. 3-4” striping knife

4. Multi purpose Pollyfilla or similar brand.

1. Cut your sandpaper into strips, best start with medium grade then finish with fine grade.

2. Wrap sandpaper around the block. Ensuring that you are using a flat block will enable you to get a totally flat finish.

3. Apply a small amount of Pollyfilla with the striping knife. The less you put on the less you have to rub down. Remember to push firmly to force into the small deviations.

4. Sand down with your flat block or electric sander untill you obtain a nice flat surface if you still have any deviations repeat the process. When you are happy with the surface you can paint.

How hard this job becomes, depends on how long your cables were chased and the condition of wall at the start. If the wall is very old and uneven, it can make the repair more difficult.
